Ice Dams - Is Your Roof at Risk?

Cold weather can be tough on roofs. One risk that winter brings is ice dams. These occur when ice on your roof melts and the water gets trapped by ice or snow. The water then makes its way through your shingles to the inside of your house or attic where it can cause all sorts of damage if it isn't caught early. Popular Mechanics has a great illustration of how ice dams form:

If you notice leaks around your house and it is or has been snowing, your roof may have developed an ice dam. If you suspect that you could have an ice dam, act quickly. Call a roofer (preferably Kaiser!) as soon as possible. The problem can be diagnosed for only a small fee and the faster you get it taken care of, the more money you'll save on roof and ceiling repairs.

Great information on ice damming! This happens a lot in New Jersey. But this winter has been mild so we are okay here!
