At one time Atlas Chalet was the dominant shingle used on new construction. Eventually the shingles were discontinued, resulting in a situation where this roof system is no longer repairable. In a recent interview with Fox 5, Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens made his opinion on damage to discontinued shingles clear.

“If they have storm damage then the insurance company needs to replace it”

“The whole roof?”

“Yep. I think if they can’t match these shingles because they’re no longer being manufactured, then I think the insurance company probably ought to go ahead to satisfy the consumer and do the whole roof,” said commissioner Hudgens.

The report singles out Allstate and American Family as being resistant to replacing storm damaged Atlas Chalet roofs. However, we have had clients whose roofs were replaced by both. So, before you write off your discontinued roof as a lost cause call us for a free evaluation.
